Knight’s Move is the result of a commission for new book shelves. The client’s paperback collection had got out of hand and something needed to be done. Although a bookcase seems to be no more than planks supported by spacers, fulfilling this commission made Jonathan realise it could be greater than the sum of its parts. By devising simple locking keys to fix the modules together it could be positioned in all sorts of apparently unbalanced ways.
Each module can hold up to 100 paperbacks, and there looked like at least four times this number on the floor ready to be shelved. If there are some books larger books the modules can be rearranged to allow for some taller spaces.
Once Jonathan started thinking about the possibilities he was glad to have made more than the client requested. He uses them for shoes, books and workroom storage.
