This was the piece which made me feel that furniture design was what I wanted to do.

In 2005 I had some yew felled in the hurricane of 1987. A difficult timber to work and one celebrated for its structural ability to bend, not for its ease of making flat surfaces.

Here is a small sideboard or chiffonier usually made from dark oak. Here the yew boards have been cut to maximise their symmetry and use any straight edges for framing surfaces. The door hinges are kept to a minimum with pivots points and the door panels are set outside their frames, thus maximising their impact.

Art deco was the inspiration.

It remains a treasured piece in our home.
